What’s In a word?

My father was born in Marigot, Haiti and my mother was born in Jacmel. I myself was born in Boston, Massachussettes. My father always told me that I was Haitian while society said something else. Being a child of Soul music, Funk, a latchkey kid and Hip Hop I chose to identify with being a proud American as well and adapted the Haitian-American description whenever asked or forced to create my own entry when the prepopulated boxes did not suffice. Africa is the cradle of civilization. Once civilized we travel, migrate and change in many ways.
